In-ground Winter Pool Cover
The first day of winter has officially come and gone, and if you have not winterized your pool, you had better do so before it is too late. If you have winterized your pool but have not purchased a cover, then read on for the benefits of an in-ground winter pool cover.
An in-ground winter pool cover is the last step when winterizing your pool. In-ground winter pool covers are made of vinyl or mesh, and they are used in conjunction with a cover pump and/or a leaf net. Depending on the type of climate you are in, you may need all of these items for a successful winterization of your pool.
Vinyl in-ground winter pool covers will keep all debris and sunlight out of your pool. These covers are the best for areas that have a hard freeze, or if your winter pool cover doubles as a safety cover. Usually you can combine a vinyl in-ground winter pool cover with a leaf net. That way you will not have to pull off hundreds of heavy, decaying leaves in the spring. A vinyl cover will have to have a cover pump. The cover pumps gets all of the melted rain and snow off of the cover so it will not weigh it down or freeze on top. Another advantage to a vinyl in-ground winter pool cover is that no sunlight will get in your pool, and you will not have algae growing on the sides.
Mesh in-ground winter pool covers are usually made from a very fine scrim that allows only the smallest amounts of debris and water in the pool. This type of cover will eliminate the need for a leaf net or a cover pump, but keep in mind if there is a lot of rain in your area that your water level will raise. You may need to drain some out before there is a freeze.
Keeping up with a pool is a lot of work year-round, but if you winterize your pool with an in-ground winter pool cover, you can keep the amount of work you have to do in the winter months to a minimum.
